Simply Successful Secrets

Tagged by Lora from The Power of Trinity Blog for the experiment. I am supposed to list things that I do everyday that help me to be "successful". I am still a bit confused about the word "successful" but the following is a list of what I do daily to feel balanced.

 1) I write everything that I am gonna do for the day on my white board. I put a line through the activity once it is done so that I feel a sense of accomplishment. I also write down my dreams and goals and lots of other stuff.

2) I work out. I start the morning on my yoga mat. I stretch, take deep
breaths, and also do a few pilates exercises. Also, I go to the gym for
about an hour 3-4 times a week...either to a yoga class, bellydancing
or I hit the weights. It is so relaxing to work the body.

3) I watch or listen to Democracy Now. I don't watch any television unless I am visiting family. We gave all of ours away. I do not feel like I am missing anything really.

4) I do what I love. I teach kids. And I teach what I love-- technology. In one class we are are building rockets which we are painting and launching next week. In another class, we are building castles and learning about symmetry and rotation. In another class, we are making bridges stronger and more creatively designed using a Lego system. I try to go beyond the curriculum as much as possible and engage kids in conversations that will open up their bright minds even further. I introduce cutting edge technologies that are currently being developed in the fields of physics and engineering so that they understand why learning science now is just GREAT!!!

6) I question my existence. And I am thankful for what I have and for what I have not. I make time to read something everyday (even if its just a few pages) so that I can calm my mind. I am currently reading Open Heart, Open Mind by a woman monk named Thubten Chodron. It's not your everyday self help book but rather a thorough explanation of Buddhist philosophy. I consider reading texts of these sorts to be part of my "spiritual practice". I also read my friends blogs which motivate, inspire, and soothe my entire being depending on the person/topic.

7) I watch what I eat. No meat, lots of fruits and veggies, not too many sweets, & very rarely do I consume alcohol; usually just very special occasions. (i have come a long way) ALSO, If I don't have at least one piece of Green & Black's organic dark chocolate at the end of the night with a cup of hot chamomile tea--I won't sleep. It's my night cap. It makes me sooo happy & sleepy:)

I think about my family. I probably call my mom too much. I think about tomorrow & I love. I use my hands to make things...gardening, cooking, music, art (at least one of those daily). I listen for and follow my heart & the more intuitive voice in my head. And well, I stop when I am tired.

Goodnight:)

What a beautiful list, Bri.

Briana,

Thank you for sharing your list of success secrets! It's a great list and I love your idea of using the white board.

Setting both short-term as well as long-term goals has been a theme across many of the responses to the Simply Successful Secrets project, but I think you are the first to suggest physically crossing off tasks as they are completed.

I totally agree that the sense of accomplishment from doing that is important, and in today's world of high technology, concepts like that can sometimes be forgotten.

Thanks again for participating, Briana!

Good list... My problem is that my day is pretty much driven by the twins and they can't read a list yet.
